Shire Network News is the podcast of Silent Running , an Anglospheric group blog. You can contact the presenter, "Tom Paine", here.

The feature interview this week is with Baghdad-based blogger Omar, from “Iraq the Model” who describes the extremely tense atmosphere where he lives in the wake of the bombing of a holy Shia shrine and the resulting spasm of sectarian murders which threatend to tear the country apart.

Laurence Simon tells us all about municipal corruption in Houston, and then marvels at the way technology allows him to do so. And Meryl Yourish, in "On Second Thought" tells us more about International Eat a Tasty Animal for PETA Day. Mmmmm, meat-based food, aughhhhhhhh.....

In Blog News, Osama says he’ll never be taken alive. The Egyptian Sandmonkey says that’s just fine with him. So say we all.

Who has the most cogent, reasoned, and comprehensive take on the dreaded Cartoons of Death on the entire planet? It’s a giant animated purple cow named Reginald of course!

Sigh, yes, allright, David Irving, jail not a good idea, makes him a martyr, freedom more important yadda yadda, blah blah. On the other hand, Belmont Club harks back to the days where Mr Irving’s views might have received a more, ah, direct response.

Blowback from the ridiculously overblown Muslim reaction to the Cartoons of Death is now starting to his the so-called western Muslim “leaders” where they live. Turns out the moderates are starting to turn on them. Brussels Journal reports the formation of a Democratic Muslim network, with 700 members so far, The imams are calling them “rats”, which seems to indicate they’re on the right track.

Want to be a radio star as well as an influential blogger? Tracy Twyman, who writes for the Plus Ultra blog in Portland, Oregon, shows us the way to get more attention (and hits) by going on a local talk show.

Another French Jew has been tortured and killed by Muslims and the French police have again put Inspector Clouseau on the case. The initially tried to pretend there was nothing antisemitic about it, but even they have had to back down. Alison Kaplan Sommer has the hideous details of the tragic death of Ilan Halimi. And No Pasaran tells us how the French intelligentsia are even now turning the ringleader of the murder gang into the real victim in all this. How long before Le Monde suggests the Jews were behind the whole thing I wonder?
