I kick of Blog News by reviewing our performance at the Blog Awards where we came in 5th. Extracts from the Slate Daily Podcast and Open Source Sex. Time Magazine really has flipped out: I rather like Robert Spencer's take on their nonsense award over at JihadWatch.

Judith at Keshertalk gives us the 2006 take on how to deal with the Ku Klux Klan.

The Ynet story about the Israeli Supreme Court can be found here.

Meryl Yourish will be back in the new year.

Damian Penny is talking about Dictators.

Laurence Simon is talking the denial of Muhammad conference in Tel Aviv.

This week's closing quote is once again by Winston Churchill. This time it is from a document found in the library of FDR. You can find it here.

At this moment when the New Year opens in storm, I feel it my duty on behalf of the British Government and indeed the whole British Empire to tell you, Mr. President, how lively is our sense of gratitude and admiration for the memorable declaration which you made to the American people and to the lovers of Freedom in all continents on Sunday last.
We cannot tell what lies before us, but with this trumpet-call we march forward heartened and fortified and with the confidence which you have expressed that in the end all will be well for the English speaking peoples and those who share their ideals.

Brian and Tom, et al.,

Each of your courageous podcasts is thoroughly enjoyable. (Pieces be upon the crocodiles!) I particularly liked Tom's screed in the 2006 year-end episode. Could not agree more. Never quit the fight and fight with the weapons at hand. You may not get enough feedback as to how your work is being received out here, but I for one truly profit from it here in the darkness of Los Angeles.

Also, I love your opening and closing music. Best of the podcast world. Mindless rock (the staple of most podcasts) is meaningless and a waste of mp3 data. But I listen to "Rule Britannia" to its end every time, hearing the unsung words. Great arrangement! Too bad the Brits themselves don't appreciate it anymore. This colonial surely does. The extended play version on the year-end episode was especially appreciated. Brian, I know you tried to jazz the opening up for a couple of episodes, but tradition rules! The original opening is terrific.

Here’s to 2007.

Thanks for you comments Dan, much appreciated and a merry Christmas to you and to all our listeners looking in.

The arrangement I'm playing at the end of the show used to be played at 5:40 every morning on BBC Radio 4 to herald the opening of the station for the day. In line with this country throwing away all the good traditions, this has now stopped and been replaced with another news bulletin. Because the three hour rolling news show that starts at 6am isn't enough: they needed more time to spread lies, deception and vile calumniates.

I'm happy to find the best that there is here and keep it alive. Looking forward to the return of the show in 2007, Sunday has felt a little odd without a show to do!

Very interesting podcast. The English speaking peoples should be united, though I reserve the right to rip the piss mercilessly out of American spelling.

That Radio 4 tune thing is a prime example of the BBC being out of sync with what most people want. So many people wanted to retain it, yet the lefties at the Beeb knew better.

I heard it was composed by a Jewish refugee, who valued Britain more than some of those born here.

I really enjoy your podcast. I just hope that you understood that it was a joke when S.B. Cohen said that Borat was a guest of honour at the Holocaust denial conference in Tehran.

Note to Mary:

The American spelling is more original than the "correct" English spelling, which suffered from Frenchification during that Norman thing.  "Color" is the original English version of "Colour" (Frenchified English).  So, it is our American cousins who are keeping the tradition alive (and not just in measurement units).
